Objective

My passion is to develop computer programs, graphics and solutions for commercial, educational or industrial applications. I enjoy combining technical with creative skills.

Background

Together with over fifteen years of programming, design work and system administration experience as a hobby, I have practised my skills in both commercial environments and the open source community. I have written several games and applications for UNIX operating systems and am responsible for the design, content and maintenance of multiple Internet web sites, for example the Capsi live music community.

Work experience

• April 2006 to present

  Employed by Openlot (also Bwirelezz and Checkus TV Productions as senior software engineer responsible for the development, deployment and maintenance of mobile lottery platforms (using BEA Weblogic and J2EE solutions), SMS entertainment formats (using the LAMP platform) and various television productions such as TMF Clubcam and SBS Fighting with the stars.

• June 2004 to April 2006

  Employed by Yarosa Entertainment.

  At Yarosa, I was a software engineer responsible for a broad range of tasks, ranging from UNIX system administration of our server park to the design and development of (mostly) Perl applications. These interact with or are part of Yarosa's HTTP and SMPP based platform. Yarosa specialises in interactive entertainment for television and mobile devices (primarily SMS based) for customers such as a world-wide range of MTV Networks channels.

  My job included on-call support duty to ensure 24/7 availability and assistance to our customers.

• September 2004 to present

  Webmaster of the official HorrorPops website.

  The HorrorPops are "are a straight up rock and roll band with their roots buried deep in 80's new wave, old-school punk and 50's rockabilly". The band is signed with the Epitaph label.

• July 1999 to May 2004

  Employed by Innovative Solutions in Media.

  During the first years of my employment I have worked on the development and maintenance of the e-commerce website of Bruna, the largest chain of bookstores in the Netherlands and the website of CDA, a large Dutch political party. Primary tasks were writing and updating PHP code and the development and maintenance of PostgreSQL and MySQL databases, as well as system administration for the hosting machines.

  After the summer of 2000 my duties were mostly concentrated on system administration, managing our farm of Linux servers in cooperation with the administrators of our Windows 2000 web servers. For Free Record Shop, a large audio and video retailer, we have implemented a load balancing cluster under Linux.

• January 1998 to July 1998

  Employed by Randstad Uitzendbureau.

  Worked on a part-time project for the GGD Zuidhollandse Eilanden, a privatised health care company formerly owned by the government. My tasks included the categorisation and technical implementation of a redesign of various forms to be printed, copied and used as MS Word stencils/templates.

• January 1997 to December 1997

  Employed by Randstad Uitzendbureau.

  Worked for companies and institutions including P&O North Sea Ferries and nursing-home De Plantage. Work included transportation of and assistance to customers.

• July 1996 to September 1996

  Employed by Marketique Eindhoven.

  Downloaded, converted and indexed images from popular Internet web sites for Philips to be put onto a CD-Interactive disc to speed up their Internet browser by loading these images from disk and not through the modem despite voiced reservations on the feasibility of such an approach to Internet content.

  Employed by Marketique Eindhoven.

  Gave telephonic assistance to CD-Interactive Internet users on the Philips Helpdesk. Tasks included registering new users, problem solving and providing information about the products and services.

  I have been involved as lead programmer and founder of many open source projects. I have been co-developer of the KDE Desktop Environment, the leading graphical user interface for UNIX desktop systems and was member of the KDE e.V. (Inc), an organization of KDE contributors aimed at streamlining financial, legal and organisational aspects of a large open source project.

• December 1995 to October 1996

  I have been board member of student computer organisation MCGV Stack, Eindhoven (Netherlands), as chief editor of the organisation newsletter and periodical paper.

  I have been board member of the freshman committee of student association ESV Demos, Eindhoven (Netherlands) for one year.
