We're at war (duh)

North Korea says "it would regard harsh sanctions over its nuclear test as a declaration of war".
Shock, horror, eek, panic. Oh wait, isn't this the country that in 1950 was at war with South Korea, the United Nations and through extension, the United States of America? Yup. Well here's a fun fact that apparently even the Koreans are forgetting: it still is. Nothing more than a cease-fire was ever signed - and even from that the DPRK withdrew some time ago.

Welcome to tomorrow

Good morning. North Korea has performed its nuclear test. I suggest we let hedonism run the planet and have mass orgies, see if we're still alive after a while and if so, deal with it then.

Doomsday Clock needs update
- Posted by Rob (#1) on July 19, 2006 01:13 CEST
Doomsday Clock is cool:
The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists has informed the world what time it is since 1947, when its now-famous "Doomsday Clock" first appeared of the cover of the magazine. Since then, the minute hand of the clock has moved forward and back to reflect the global level of nuclear danger and the state of international security.
Chicago, February 27, 2002: Today, the Board of Directors of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists moves the minute hand of the "Doomsday Clock," the symbol of nuclear danger, from nine to seven minutes to midnight, the same setting at which the clock debuted 55 years ago. Since the end of the Cold War in 1991, this is the third time the hand has moved forward.
Um, hello. This is 2006. North Korea and nukes? Check. Iran? Let us get back to you on Iran. World War III both observed and welcomed. Move that clock to midnight I'd say, and get those fireworks started.
Walibi World theme park even celibrates mid-summer New Year's Eve events. With fireworks. I didn't make a huge post about it because they are somewhat Australian themed, where mid-summer New Year celebrations make sense. So I let it slip. Still, silly.

DPRK News Fun
- Posted by Rob (#1) on July 15, 2006 02:52 CEST
I'm bored and randomly reading "news" entries from the Korean Central News Agency reporting from Pyongyang. North Korea is incredibly surreal, as are it's news reports.
Month of Anti-U.S. Joint Struggle Observed in Britain
A joint symposium of the British progressive parties and organizations on the U.S. hostile policy against the DPRK was held in London on June 24 on the occasion of the June 25-July 27 month of anti-U.S. joint struggle.
Oh great, that means I can still catch the parade at Trafalgar Square! How could our media have missed this glorious event? (Okay, fair enough, Indymedia syndicates KCNA.)

Did the US deploy missile defence against Kim Jong?
- Posted by Rob (#1) on July 8, 2006 18:21 CEST
Something that we'll all probably never know, because it won't be public for a generation or two: Did we blow up North Korea's ICBM that failed shortly after launch?
I wonder where that speculation comes from. Has there been any sign that this might have happened, or is it just positive thinking we're that much ahead of the bad guys?
Update: Neil's response.
