International force for Gaza?
- Posted by Rob (#1) on August 25, 2006 10:17 CEST
The international force in Lebanon that will keep Israel safe by not disarming Hezbollah might be expanded to Gaza:
If the planned multinational force in Lebanon succeeds, it might be possible to create a similar force for the Gaza Strip, Italian Foreign Minister Massimo D'Alema said in an interview with Haaretz.
Even more than usual, I'm skeptical. This international force will not actually be able to use force, despite the obvious lessons from the Srebrenica massacre. Therefore Hezbollah (and Hamas) will have to lay down arms voluntarily. Time to smirk, people. See, if a voluntary disarmament were even a remote possibility, we wouldn't need an international force in the first place. And indeed we could suffice with the international farce that is currently underway. UNIFIL sounds a lot like "unfulfilled" and it's beocming clear why.
By the way, Hezbollah isn't even considered a terrorist organisation by former Communist Party senior D'Alema:
Hezbollah is not considered a terrorist group by the European Union, nor in my personal view.
Hezbollah actually is classified as such by the United States, Canada, Israel, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Australia. The EU does recognise "clear evidence" of "terrorist activities by Hezbollah" and for good reason. Hezbollah Secretary-General has actually stated: "in occupied Palestine there is no difference between a soldier and a civilian, for they are all invaders, occupiers and usurpers of the land". As long as that mentality prevails, not even disarmament will help obtain peace. Likewise, without the explicit acceptance of the state Israel, there will always be war, and UNIFIL might as well be named UNIFAIL.

Good riddance Abou Jahjah

And who's off to Lebanon? AEL leader Dyab "this might be the last text I will write before going home on a trip that might be my last" Abou Jahjah! (HT: Southener)
I lived my life for this Nation, and not a hair in me will hesitate in laying it down for this Nation too. The fight for Arab Unity, Liberation, Freedom and Socialism is the essence of Justice in the Homeland and beyond. Some people call it a fight for god, some people call it a fight for mankind, in essence it is one and the same fight for freedom and justice.
Our enemy in this fight is also one and the same, the colonialist Zionists are the spiritual children of the Racists in Europe and both are the products of capitalism and its global system of exploitation and slavery.
Well, at least the message is out loud and clear now that the AEL leader considers his Eurabian European hosts to be his enemy.

Syria and Iran behind Hezbollah kidnappings?
- Posted by Rob (#1) on July 14, 2006 13:28 CEST
It has been speculated before, but now Lebanon itself joins the ranks of those who hint Syria and Iran may have directed Hezbollah to attack Israel:
Jumblatt is the head of Lebanon's Progressive Socialist Party and is largely considered the most prominent anti-Syrian Lebanese politician.
He said he saw the fingerprints of Iran and Syria on Hezbollah's actions the past few days.
There is of course no significant news value in this statement. Hezbollah has obvious ties to Iran through the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and that Syria has been pulling strings in Lebanon is not exactly on the of the best kept secrets in the world either.

The war on terror accelerates
- Posted by Rob (#1) on July 13, 2006 21:35 CEST
Israel had enough of Hezbollah's support of terrorism and is now at a state of war with Lebanon. Beirut airport has been bombed, Long-range rockets have hit Haifa.. cucumber season is over early, folks.
Neil found out that Hezbollah may move the Israeli hostages to Iran and speculates this might all get very big. If Iran gets involved, possibly through Iraq, then surely the US and its allies could also get involved. Neil also already noted Syria should become involved and preferably because we decide so, not them.
There is less and less doubt the war on terror will now indeed go down in history not as a conflict, but another World War. And to be honest, considering I strongly support fighting terrorism, I can live with that thought.
