Amarok collection corruption
- Posted by Rob (#1) on July 29, 2006 01:02 CEST
Well dang nabbit! I love how Amarok has a nice OSD with album covers, works with my laptop's multimedia keys and how it makes searching and queuing wonderfully easy. But did it really have to corrupt my music collection?
It's not fun to see a Taking Back Sunday album filed under Nekromantix with song titles from The Offspring while it is actually an album by Rise Against. Rescanning my collection didn't solve the problem, so I had to manually delete the file and start with empty scores and statistics all over again. It's times likes these I wish Amarok could import statistics from Last.FM, or that I would write a plugin to keep statistics myself (but for now I will focus on extending Kiki's user profiles and my hopefully successful publish your gig calendar campaign).

Pandora's Box

Like Last.FM, Pandora is an on-line radio station aimed at providing music similar to what users already like. It is however not entirely flawless:

To start things off, here's a track that's musically similar to HorrorPops called "Ghouls" by Horrorpops, that features rockabilly revival style, basic rock song structures, a subtle use of vocal harmony, mild rhythmic syncopation and repetitive melodic phrasing.
(Why we're not playing Horrorpops)
We're not playing HorrorPops, only similar music.. for example, Horrorpops! Methinks the developers of Pandora need a small lesson on case-sensitivity. (And please, no mean remarks about my auto-linking engine which is case-sensitive as well: that's intentional.)

My Last.FM radio profile is expanding rapidly. Playing a lot of Bif Naked, The Offspring, Heideroosjes, Nekromantix, HorrorPops (doh!), Young Heart Attack, MxPx, Blink-182.. not all of it is available for streaming but at least my profile radio should be more accurate now, and my personal radio is prepared for additional albums to be licensed.
Have yet to copy some albums from my workstation to the laptop though, so I can play more Weezer, Gob, The Rasmus, Fenix TX, Green Day, No Doubt, Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards..
And I'll have to get in touch with Charles on kde-devel for more Sirenia songs so I can get into the right mood for the gig in January.. we still need to make the actual appointment for the tongue piercings as well.
