Fiscal benefit
- Posted by Rob (#1) on August 23, 2006 23:53 CEST
More stupid people who annoy me: Arno managed to utter "I have two children so that gives me a fiscal benefit" on television. Isn't parental love magical?
Then again this entire annoyance is my own fault, for watching a news programme (RTL Nieuws) void of news yet carrying something I cannot describe as anything but an actual advert for nannies. Perhaps indeed people don't need to feel guilty about having a nanny raising the kids. But surely selling strongly opinionated editorials as news ranks high on the list of guilt.
That hilarious own goal by Vermaelen that kept Ajax out of the Champions League made the evening worth it, though.

Wenger is a langer!

Barcelona beat Arsenal 2-1 to win the Champions League and although I would have rather seen a different outcome, so be it. But. Wenger promised Bergkamp would get a chance to play for a fitting good-bye, while he did not. Boo!

Sodding Frogs 4 - PSV Eindhoven 0

Returning from a three-day fever, flu and H5N1 attack would have been nicer had Olympique Lyon not outperformed PSV (0-5 aggregate). Sodding French. I wish we would've let the Germans retire there instead of saving the shithole. Liverpool is out as well, so no reason for happiness at all tonight.
I'm back to bed, in tears.

And is if the night weren't bad enough, Liverpool also lost. They weren't exactly great and I have been focusing on the PSV game but it's still a big shame.
I guess I'll get drunk by sadness instead of happiness then. Pimmez says hi again. For the sake of Dutch football I hope his Ajax wins tomorrow.

PSV Eindhoven 0 - Olympique Lyon 1

First half: PSV were better and should have converted at least one chance into a goal. Second half: Lyon were the better team and scored a goal because the otherwise reliable Gomes completely missed a stoppable free kick. PSV were ur against ten after a red card for the last ten minutes but Kone missed am incredible chance.
Hate to say it but I don't see PSV recover in France. Shite!

Panatinaikos 4 - PSV 1

I'm posting this disaster as I stand by my team even in bad times. And it was bad tonight, very bad. I'm hoping that PSV was just not 100% concentrated having already qualified. Hopefully they'll make up for it against Feyenoord this weekend.
It is interesting how Panathinaikos scored four times against PSV in a single game where in the Dutch league PSV have achieved shutouts in twelve consecutive matches. The Greek scored as often against PSV in two Champions League games as a whole squadron of teams did in the fifteen games played in the Dutch league this season. That's quite some irony.

Thank you Rosenborg, for keeping Panathinaikos at 2-2. It made PSV's 1-1 against Arsenal sufficient for qualifying for the second round of the Champions League for the first time ever, in PSV's ninth consecutive appearance.
And thanks PSV. Five points ahead of AZ in the national league, 8 and 9 ahead of respectively Feyenoord and Ajax. And now, still leading Group E after five matches. With distance from Arsenal and the rest. As they say in Player Manager, "keep up the good result".
Woohoo!
